New York State PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association

Haines

2009 Clinical excellence Award Winner
Theofista Haines RN CPAN

Congratulations  Theofista Haines RN CPAN from St Peter’s Hospital Albany, N. Y. Sophia is a kind, caring compassionate nurse.  She carefully attends to her patient needs. Sophia stays with her patients and gives them reassurance, no matter how confused and restless they may be. She speaks softly and firmly to them.  Sophia constantly reassures them that they will get better, the pain will lesson.

Sophia is always helping her co-workers with the care of their patients.  She is always doing something to help.  She never sits still at work.

Sophia is an advocate for maintaining ASPAN standards.  She knows the standards and brings them to attention when she feels that policy does not meet the standards set forth by ASPAN.  She introduces new staff to the standards.   Her practice reflects ASPAN standards.

Sophia is very generous.  She comes from a small Philippine village. She has fund raised since 2005 for supplies for her high school.  Last year, she was able to provide running water to the 1000 students at the school. This year she hopes to send books to the college.  She corresponds with the Alumni Association of her school.  She contacts members around the world to contribute.  Sophia spots any new Philippine nurse and takes them under her wing.  She introduces them to other staff and makes them feel welcome.

Sophia has been certified for many years.  She can function in any area of the PACU from admitting in Ambulatory to Phase I-III. Sophia knows the standards and advocates that policies reflect the standards.  She encourages staff to be members of ASPAN and attend continuing education and conferences to advance their practice.

Sophia was one of the first to be certified and advocates for certification. Sophia was very encouraging to me when I was studying to be certified.  She would like to have all of our
nurses certified.

Sophia is timely with her discharges and easily cares for all patient populations.  She willingly helps others and works whenever and where ever we need her.
